4Some local community members -- Srs. Madonna, Mary Lawrence, Adelaide celebrating together 5Sisters Joanne and Marie Clement blessing Sr. Mary Lawrence

This year, the Franciscan Federation Conference was held in Cincinnati from July 27th – 30th.  The theme was: “Releasing Energies to Love: Creative Fidelity in the Church.” The Franciscan Sisters of the Poor had twenty Sisters and one Associate present for the celebration of the Banquet on Sunday evening.  Each Congregation was asked to name a Sister who has demonstrated through her dedicated life the releasing of her energies to LOVE and has shown creative fidelity in the Church.  Our Congregation had chosen SR. MARY LAWRENCE VANDERBURG to be this year’s recipient of honor.

We enjoyed two excellent presentations by the two keynote speakers, Fr. Joe Chinnici and Sr. Marlene Weisenbeck, OSF.  Sr. Marlene’s presentation proposed to look at our fractured world and wounded Church through the lens of the call to creative fidelity and how it is expressed within our Franciscan tradition. Fr. Joe reminded us of our history and how reform was needed for both the “invisibility” and our “vitamin deficiencies.”  Then he cleverly showed us how the Evangelical Life is the “correct and Gospel response” to help us be and live Jesus in our world today.

The Conference ended with our celebrating Sr. Mary Lawrence for all her generous and dedicated years. Congratulations and may God continue to bless you, Sr. Mary Lawrence!
