Eileen A. (nee Doyle) Mallory became an Associate of the Franciscan Sisters of the Poor in 2015. She had volunteered at the Franciscan Peddler since its inception. She would come on her designated days with MORE donations! Customers would always ask about her for they remembered her kind and loving way as she assisted them. Those who worked with Eileen enjoyed her kind, full-of-life spirit and welcoming presence.

There was much balance in Eileen’s life. She and Pat were married 35 years. Their life together was one of deep devotion. Her family was at the heart of everything – especially her grandchildren. Her Irish heritage meant a lot to her – and with that heritage brought about a life rooted deeply in her Catholic faith.

Some may recall her as a librarian at the Covedale branch and of late a former branch manager at the Mt. Healthy branch. Her work ethic was admired and even inspired someone to become a librarian as well.

In addition to volunteering at the Franciscan Peddler, Eileen belonged to a group of religious and lay women who worked to end human trafficking. She also enjoyed reading (one of the top five interests of any librarian!), knitting, bird watching, hiking and dogs – particularly pugs!

Yes, Eileen led a life of balance. At her Covenant, August 2015, she stated: “I commit myself to the life in spirit of St. Francis by showing love and respect for all God’s creatures with a lifestyle consistent with the Franciscan Values especially with more positive words and actions.”
