Joseph Agricola became an Associate of the Franciscan Sisters of the Poor in 1998 and made his permanent covenant September 2012.    Joe first met the Franciscan Sisters of the Poor while he volunteered at Mercy Franciscan Terrace.   Joe married Dottie Roszell on November 25, 1961 and they had no children.  After Dottie passed away in 2013 Joe’s health rapidly declined.

After working 28 years in the survey department of Hamilton County, Joe retired in 1994.  He may have retired from his career, but he was a life-long volunteer serving others.  In addition to being an Associate of the Franciscan Sisters of the Poor, Joe volunteered at the Cincinnati Museum Center and collected toy trains and he was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Joe loved being an Associate.   In Joe’s letter requesting to make permanent covenant he wrote a quote that was very inspirational to him, by Mother Francis:  If it please the Lord that we are ill then we can serve him in sickness as well as in health.  Let us strive therefore, for harmony with the Divine will.  Joe’s permanent covenant reads:  “ I will strive to live my life in the spirit  of the Gospel and to witness and live the charism of Mother Frances Schervier and I commit myself to praying for the Sisters and Associates and I will help my brothers and sisters who are in need.”
