John has been connected with the Franciscan Sisters of the Poor since his birth when he was born at the old St. Mary’s Hospital in Cincinnati. He finished Nursing School at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Dayton, OH. John met his future wife, Judith, when she attended the Nursing School. They were married in 1970, and they had two children, Jenifer and John, Jr. There was one grandchild, Joshua Pack.
After John retired from the Army, he worked in Staff Development at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati. He met Molly Johantgen who invited him to become an Associate and enter into the Associate Relationship with the Congregation.
John made his Initial Covenant in 2001 and faithfully attempted to live his life in solidarity with the Franciscan Sisters of the Poor for eighteen years. He shared his caring and compassion by visiting the elderly and homebound of his parish as well as sending cards to Sisters and Associates on all occasions. John also volunteered as a driver for those needing to be driven to medical appointments.
John served on the Associate Leadership Team of the US Area with Leah Curtin and Sr. Marilyn Fischer. John shared his skills to help the on-going development of the Associate Relationship. Leah Curtin remembers John as being very kind, gentle and devout. His faith was very important to him as well as his family and his ability to help people.
In 2019, John was no longer able to renew his Covenant due to illness. The family requested that his Associate status be changed to Friend, since the Associate Relationship always meant so much to him.
John, your life speaks to us of God’s presence and goodness. You truly were blessed to be a blessing to all those you served in your life time. Well done, good and faithful servant. Rest now in God’s everlasting peace and glory! Amen.
