A short story to meditate

The Council of the Universe

One day the beautiful things of the Universe convened in a Council.
The Sun said: "I am beautiful and radiant with great splendour!
But God is a thousand times more beautiful than me ...
Who will tell God in words? "

The stars said: "We shine with all our force.
And at night, the sky is real fireworks.
But God is a thousand times brighter than us.
Who will find the words to sing God’s Light? "

Flowers said, "We are by the thousands,
of all species, fragrant and good-smelling, adorned with beautiful colours.
We are crumbs of the Beauty of God.
That will make us a bouquet of words to sing our gratitude to the Lord ? "

Then a little boy, little before the sun, the stars, the mountains ...
Happy to admire flowers, happy to splash with water, happy to love animals ...
And this little boy started playing with words to sing to God all his gratefulness for the universe!

circoli creazione 1Starting from this poem "The Council of the Universe", creative discussion with the sisters and associates: Each sister and associate shall take one stanza of the text and shall make a drawing (split in groups) . The drawings shall then be displayed on a tree branch.

Creation: Some topics for discussion:

➢ Creation: what do you think about it?
➢ Besides this beauty, and these injuries which tarnish it, which is your share of collaboration with the Creator to continue in preserving this beauty. And what about you?
➢ For whom, for what would you want to say "THANK YOU" to God?

Discussion (do not forget to listen to each other)

Each group will make a short summary report at the end

circoli creazione 3Our meditation:

Creation is beautiful! From the infinitely small to the infinitely large, it is rich (in colours, light, scents, shapes, questions ...), diverse, organized (atoms, molecules, genes, galaxies, .. .) ... Besides this beautiful profusion, humans are marvellous, they wonder, they ask: "Is there “someone” behind all this or does all of this just happen? "

Over time, humans have been seeking for an answer to this question. Some believed in chance, others in the existence of many gods, others saw in creation traces of a God-Creator.

But Creation has no word to tell the Creator (a flower does not speak ...). Only humans can throw bouquets to thanks Heaven! Provided they believe, they admire, they are marvellous ... uttering their gratitude to sing their praise to the Living God.

In turn one person per table will bring one of the drawings he/she has chosen during the reading of the Canticle of the Creatures in different languages with a music background

Canticle of the Sun

French   Most high, all powerful, all good Lord!
All praise is Yours, all glory, all honor, and all blessing.
To You, alone, Most High, do they belong.
No mortal lips are worthy to pronounce Your name.

English   Be praised, my Lord, through all Your creatures,
especially through my lord Brother Sun,
who brings the day; and You give light through him.
And he is beautiful and radiant in all his splendor!
Of You, Most High, he bears the likeness.

French    Be praised, my Lord,
              through Sister Moon and the stars;
in the heavens You have made them bright, precious and beautiful.

English   Be praised, my Lord, through Brothers Wind and Air,
and clouds and storms, and all the weather,
through which You give Your creatures sustenance.

she is very useful, and humble, and precious, and pure.

through whom You brighten the night.
He is beautiful and cheerful, and powerful and strong.

French    Be praised, my Lord, through our sister Mother Earth,
who feeds us and rules us,
and produces various fruits with colored flowers and herbs.

English   Be praised, my Lord, through those who forgive for love of You;
through those who endure sickness and trial.
Happy those who endure in peace,
for by You, Most High, they will be crowned.

French   Be praised, my Lord, through our sister Bodily Death,
from whose embrace no living person can escape.
Woe to those who die in mortal sin!
Happy those she finds doing Your most holy will.
The second death can do no harm to them.

English   Praise and bless my Lord, and give thanks,
and serve Him with great humility.

Tu rassasies tous les vivants ;
les hommes travaillent pour vivre …

Conclusion: African Prayer
Prayed in French

Eternal God, Creator of the Universe, there is no God but you. Your works are great and marvellous, marvellous are your ways. Thank you for the infinite variety of the splendour of your creation. Thank you for giving us the freedom to express in so many ways your presence and purpose. Forgive us for doing violence to your creation. Forgive us for using violence against each other. We are in admiration and gratitude to your tireless love for each of your children, for all of them, Christians, Jews, Muslims, followers of traditional religion and all other believers. Eternal God, Creator of the universe, there is no God but you.
Amen.
