Inspired by the Gospel values of St. Francis of Assisi and the active love of the poor shown by Blessed Frances Schervier, the Franciscan Sisters of the Poor house the homeless, care for children and families, feed the hungry, minister to the sick, offer spiritual sustenance to the hopeless and care for the earth.
The Franciscan Sisters of the Poor are an international/multi-cultural religious congregation founded in 1845 by Blessed Frances Schervier in Aachen, Germany.
The Franciscan Sisters of the Poor minister in Brazil, Italy, Philippines, Senegal, and the United States and follow a Gospel way of life through public vows of consecrated celibacy, poverty and obedience.
In carrying out the mission of Jesus, Frances Schervier saw Christ in the poor and desired to heal His wounds; that is the very core of being a Franciscan Sister of the Poor that offer their talents and resources entirely to God for the creative healing of women and men in need.
