On August 22, 2017, the feast of the Queenship of Mary about 50 Sisters, staff, friends and gardeners gathered for the dedication of the Marian Garden on St. Clare Campus for those Sisters who pioneered or maintained our healing presence across the Areas and the mission of the Philippines. The garden came about through the intention of a few donors to honor those Sisters who had devoted time and energy to spread our charism into “new lands”.

We had a group of “honored” guests, having 8 of the possible 11 living Sisters who had been missioned over the years. This group included Sr. Marie Clement, Sr. Adelaide, Sr. Mary Jacinta, Sr. Madeline Marie, Sr. Karen, Sr. Marie Martin, Sr. Rita and Sr. Mary Virginia.

mg 03The service began with the reading of a Litany to Mary. Following the litany there was a solemn reading of the all the Sisters who over the years had served in Italy, Brazil, Senegal and the Philippines. For many, it was a touching moment. Many, lovingly recalled those Sisters who have been called home to God and watch over the Areas and mission with seraphic eyes.

Tammy, the main gardener stepped forward and shared with all gathered that the selection of native plants was to attract butterflies and bees, a symbolic image of the circle of life. The service concluded with those in attendance being invited to come forth and bless the new garden.
