Mary Ann Brownlee

Mary Ann Brownlee, passed away at the age of 93 on Sunday, January 7, 2024, in Fredericksburg, Texas.
She was born October 29, 1930, in Detroit, Michigan, to Chester and Cecilia McFadden. Mary Ann was a dear mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She shared her infectious love of life, education, music, and the arts with all her family. She was an excellent student and graduated early from university. She was a high school English teacher and college professor, obtaining her master's and doctoral degrees. Prior to teaching college, she worked as the local TV weatherwoman and portrayed funny characters in numerous children’s programs.
Mary Ann is also greatly admired and fondly remembered for her award-winning acting and directing talents that she shared in community theater. Some of her other societal contributions include her service to underprivileged adults, as a career educator, and as a chaplain and counselor during the time of the 9/11 attacks in New York City.
Mary Ann was an Associate of the Franciscan Sisters of the Poor since 1990. She made her Permanent Covenant in 1996. Her covenants always included living the charism "in the direction the Lord has led me in healing his wounds" in whatever manner that might be.
We are grateful for the life of Mary Ann and for the years she spent as part of our Franciscan Sisters of the Poor family.
